THIS WEEK IN MUSTANG SPORTS (FEB 2-7) • SATURDAY, FEB 7, WILL BE A BUSY DAY FOR MUSTANG ATHLETES – • 9am – Diving semi-finals @ Crawfordsville • 9am – Boys Wrestling Regional @ North Montgomery • 1pm/2:30pm – JV/V Boys Basketball, Home, vs Rossville • 7pm – Girls Basketball Sectional Championship @ N Vermillion • Girls Basketball Sectional is this week. The Lady Mustangs enter the tournament with a 19-2 record and will face the winner of Attica/Covington on Friday, Feb 6, at North Vermillion. If the girls advance to the sectional championship on Saturday night, Fountain Central students in grades 8-12 will be able to purchase discounted tickets for $5 (regular price is $8) IF they ride the fan bus to the game. Tickets need to be reserved by paying $5 by the end of the day Thursday. Students riding the bus will get in for their $5 on Saturday in the championship game. The fan bus will leave at 5:50 and tip-off for the championship game is 7pm. • The girls 7th & 8th grade basketball game that was postponed on Monday, Jan 26, has been RESCHEDULED to THURSDAY, Feb 5. The game is still at Crawfordsville Middle with a 6pm start. • Mustang Wrestling competed in the sectional at Crawfordsville Saturday. Four Mustangs finished in the top 4 to advance to the regional. Alan Melchor, Ryder Ford, Dakoda Willoughby, and Colby Parrish-Poore all finished in the top 4 on the day. Colby Parrish-Poore advanced to the championship match, earning a 2nd place sectional finish. Great job guys! • The Mustang Boys’ Basketball team had a thrilling win over Benton Central on Saturday night. Despite being a 10+ point underdog, the Mustangs’ defense had the Bison confused all night, resulting in a 44-38 FC victory. Noah Dodson’s two offensive rebounds off missed free throws prevented the Bison from having a chance to mount a comeback. Eli Foxworthy put in 21 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 steals. Ayden Batchelor added 8 points, including a clutch jumper in the lane late in the 4th. Noah Dodson added 6 points and 8 rebounds. Laine Hester’s play in the 4th, hunting down loose balls and taking care of the basketball was crucial, as he added 5 points in the 4th quarter. Gavin McCollum added 4 assists and took a momentum-changing charge on the Bison as well. The Mustangs are 8-6 as they travel to Covington Thursday. • The girls’ basketball team secured a WRC Championship with their 73-6 victory over South Vermillion Friday evening. They end the regular season 19-2, as they head into sectional play on Friday at North Vermillion. • Mustang Swimming & Diving Sectional Prelims are this Thursday at Crawfordsville. Diving semifinals and swimming finals are Saturday at Crawfordsville. Diving will start at 9am, while swim finals will begin at 1pm. • The jr high swim meet at South Vermillion scheduled for Monday, Feb 2, has been re-scheduled for Tuesday, Feb 3. • The boys’ basketball will also host 14-2 Class 1A #6 Rossville on Saturday at Dave Sanders Court. The JV game will tip-off at 1pm, with the varsity game expected to begin at 2:30.
